The Diversity, Ichnology, and Osteohistology Research Group is dedicated to studying the diversity of ancient life using various paleontological tools.
It is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Aline Marcele Ghilardi, associate professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). It is currently based at the Paleontology and Paleoecology Laboratory (LPP) of the Department of Geology at this institution.
Currently, the research group has a very diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as associate researchers, working on a wide range of topics. Most undergraduate students are enrolled in Geology and Biological Sciences courses at UFRN, while graduate students are enrolled in the Graduate Programs in Geodynamics and Geophysics (PPGG) and Systematics and Evolution (PPGSE) at the same institution.
The group specializes in paleoecology, paleoichnology, and paleohistology, with an emphasis on vertebrate macrofossils. However, we also conduct studies on paleoinvertebrates, paleobotany, and taphonomy, among others.
